Python Developer Fresher Salary in India 2026: ₹4.5 LPA Median, ₹3.5–12 LPA Range

The median Python fresher offer in India is ₹4.5 LPA in 2026, but the real range spans ₹3.5–12 LPA depending on city and company type. Learn what to ask for and how skills like SQL and a deployed project move your offer.

Four buckets filling gradually from low to high, representing the salary range from ₹3.5 to 12 LPA across cities and company types.

Two offers land in your inbox in the same week. One is from a services firm in Pune. The other is from a small product startup in Bengaluru. Both say "Python developer," yet the numbers look like they belong to two different jobs. The language is the same in both. The gap is real: ABC Trainings puts the typical fresher offer near ₹4.5 LPA, while Ariyalam shows TCS freshers starting at ₹3.5 LPA. City and company type explain most of the difference, and this post shows you what you can ask for.

A Python fresher in India usually gets about ₹4.5 LPA, with a realistic range of ₹3.5-8 LPA. Most offers fall in that range. Services firms like TCS or Infosys pay about ₹4-5.5 LPA, while product companies and startups go up to ₹6-12 LPA, and Amazon-level offers are rare. The ₹4.5 LPA figure is one site's estimate, not government data. Bengaluru pays the most. SQL, a framework and one deployed project move you up the range (sources: ABC Trainings, Ariyalam).

Start with the ₹4.5 LPA national median

The median fresher Python offer in India is ₹4.5 LPA, so treat it as the middle of the range, not the target. ABC Trainings gives this number as its own estimate, so it is not an official median and its method is not shown. Your job is to find out whether you are likely to land below it or above it.

One honest warning before the tables. The salary pages I used do not agree with each other exactly, and all of them are training-institute or resume-site blogs, not placement reports or real offer data. Training sites earn money from courses, so treat their numbers as upper estimates. Check them against AmbitionBox, Glassdoor or your own college's placement report. Every figure below is a range, not a promise.

Check your city's range and premium

Bengaluru pays the most for a Python fresher, and Chennai has the lowest top end and the lowest premium, with Mumbai and Pune close behind, but the gap is smaller than most students think. A "city premium" means how much extra a city pays on top of base CTC. CTC (cost to company) is the full yearly cost of hiring you, not what reaches your bank.

The table below merges two sources. Fresher ranges come from ABC Trainings. City premiums come from ResumeVera.

CityFresher range (ABC Trainings)City premium on base CTC (ResumeVera)What to check
Bengaluru₹5-8 LPA+20-30%Highest pay; compare startup and product offers here
Hyderabad₹4.5-7.5 LPA+15-20%Close to Bengaluru at the top end
Mumbai₹4.5-6.5 LPA+15-25%Good premium, but check living costs against it
Delhi NCRPremium only (no fresher range in sources)+15-20%Ask the employer for the band directly
Pune₹4-7 LPA+10-15%Strong services hiring; startup offers vary more
Chennai₹4-6.5 LPA+8-12%Lowest premium; product firms here can still pay well

Sources disagree on the low end, too. Ariyalam gives Bengaluru freshers ₹4-6.5 LPA, lower than the ₹5-8 LPA from ABC Trainings. Read a Bengaluru offer near the bottom of the table as normal, not as an insult.

Pick a company type before you pick a city

Company type moves your offer more than city does: services firms pay ₹4-5.5 LPA and product startups pay ₹6-12 LPA, per ABC Trainings. The best city gives you a premium of up to 30% (ResumeVera). The right company type can nearly double your offer, but a tier-2 college fresher usually reaches services firms through campus drives, startups through a deployed project and a live-coding round, and Amazon only through a hard coding test, so treat it as a stretch.

Company typeFresher Python rangeSource
Services (TCS, Infosys, Wipro)₹4-5.5 LPAABC Trainings
TCS (second view)₹3.5-4.5 LPAAriyalam
Zoho₹5-8 LPAABC Trainings
Freshworks₹6-10 LPAABC Trainings
Startups₹6-12 LPAABC Trainings
Amazon (rare, hard to get, not a typical fresher offer)₹8-14 LPAABC Trainings

Higher pay is not the only thing to weigh. A services job is often easier to get and teaches you how real teams work. Here is the honest trade-off.

Pros

  • Services firm: steady campus hiring, even in slow years
  • Services firm: structured training before your first project
  • Product startup: higher pay from day one
  • Product startup: you ship real features to real users quickly

Cons

  • Services firm: lower pay, with less room to negotiate
  • Services firm: you may be placed on a project that is not Python
  • Product startup: harder interviews with live coding
  • Product startup: less structure, so you must learn on your own

There is a middle option too. Global capability centres often pay more than services firms. Compare them in GCC vs IT services for your first job, and see who is hiring in companies hiring freshers in 2026.

Add SQL, a framework and a deployed project

Basic Python alone pays ₹2.5-4 LPA, and adding SQL and projects moves you to ₹3.5-5.5 LPA, while full-stack Python reaches ₹4-7 LPA. These skill tiers come from Naresh IT:

Three skills decide whether you ask for the top or bottom of the range
Three skills decide whether you ask for the top or bottom of the range
  • Basic Python only: ₹2.5-4 LPA (Naresh IT)
  • Python plus SQL plus projects: ₹3.5-5.5 LPA (Naresh IT)
  • Full-stack Python: ₹4-7 LPA (Naresh IT)
  • Python plus GenAI skills: ₹5-8 LPA or more (Naresh IT)
  • Strong internship plus deployed projects: ₹6-10 LPA (Naresh IT)

The framework you pick matters as well, but plan around the fresher-level tiers above. Full-stack Python sits at ₹4-7 LPA and GenAI skills at ₹5-8 LPA or more, against ₹3.5-5.5 LPA for SQL and projects alone (Naresh IT). Broad-market premiums, such as the +35-55% for FastAPI that ResumeVera reports, are not first-job numbers.

You do not need all of it. Follow these four steps for one project:

  1. Learn SQL

Practise joins, filters and grouping on a real dataset until you can write queries without notes.

  2. Build one API in a framework

Use FastAPI or Django to build a small API that reads from and writes to your database.

  3. Deploy it

Put it on a free hosting tier so an interviewer can open a live link.

  4. Write a README

Explain what it does, how to run it, and one problem you solved while building it.

The official FastAPI tutorial in the project's official documentation, which walks through a first API step by step with code you can run is a good place to start the API step. If you enjoy the SQL part most, also read the data engineer fresher salary guide.

Use this simple check before you apply:

Do you have SQL, a framework and a deployed project? What to do
YesApply now, and ask at the top of the range for your company type.
NoBuild them first. Apply once the live link works.

Convert LPA to monthly take-home pay

A fresher's monthly pay is about ₹25,000-45,000, and it is lower than CTC divided by twelve, according to Ariyalam. CTC counts money the company spends on you that never reaches your account each month.

For example, CTC can include the employer's share of provident fund or a yearly bonus. Tax is also cut from your salary before it arrives. Every company structures this differently, which is why two offers with the same CTC can pay different amounts each month.

The fix is simple. Ask HR for the in-hand monthly figure in writing before you accept.

Ask for a number you can defend

Ask near the top of the range for your company type, and use your skills and projects as the reason. Anchor on the ₹4.5 LPA median from ABC Trainings, then see where your company sits.

Company typeMarket band (ABC Trainings)Room to moveWhat to ask for
Services firm₹4-5.5 LPALittle; bands are often fixed for campus hiresThe top of the band, backed by SQL and a deployed project
Product startup₹6-12 LPAMore; offers vary by candidateThe upper half, only if you have a deployed project or internship

These are ranges worked out from the cited bands, not real offers. Treat them as a starting point for your own ask.

Say you have two offers: a services firm and a startup. Do not quote one to the other as a threat. Use the stronger offer as quiet proof of your value. A simple script works:

"Thank you for the offer. Based on my deployed FastAPI project and my SQL work, I was hoping for something closer to the top of the band. Is there any flexibility?"

Avoid these salary-research mistakes

The most common mistake is anchoring on one blog's number, which can be wrong by ₹1 LPA or more. Compare Bengaluru on Ariyalam (₹4-6.5 LPA) with ABC Trainings (₹5-8 LPA). Same city, same year, different answers.

Watch for these other mistakes too:

  • Reading a headline range as a fresher number. ResumeVera's ₹5-55 LPA headline covers all experience levels, not your first job.
  • Comparing CTC across cities without the premium. A Chennai offer and a Bengaluru offer are not the same scale.
  • Ignoring company type. It moves your pay more than city does.
  • Skipping the in-hand figure. Your rent is paid from monthly pay, not CTC.
  • Negotiating with no project to show. Without proof, the company has no reason to move.

Here is your next step. Pick one city and one company type from the combined table, and write your target LPA range on paper. Then build and deploy one SQL-backed Python project this month, so you can defend that number when the offer arrives.
