How the rank is estimated
Your percentile says what share of candidates scored at or below you. So roughly (100 − percentile)% of all candidates scored above you. With 15,38,468 candidates, 99 percentile means about 15,385 candidates above you.
NTA ranks every candidate on their better score of the two sessions, and breaks ties with its own rules. It does not publish a formula from percentile to rank, so this is an estimate. Real ranks can differ by a few percent.
This tool shows the Common Rank List (CRL). Category ranks are not estimated, because NTA does not publish category-wise candidate counts at each percentile.
Frequently asked questions
What rank will I get with 99 percentile?
About 15,385 in the Common Rank List, using the 2026 number of candidates.
Why is there no category rank?
NTA does not publish how many candidates of each category are at each percentile, so a category rank cannot be estimated honestly. Your category rank is usually much better than your CRL.
What is the JEE Main exam pattern?
Paper 1 (B.E./B.Tech) has 75 questions for 300 marks: 25 each in Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry (20 multiple-choice and 5 numerical). A correct answer gives +4, a wrong answer gives -1, and an unanswered question gives 0. Since 2025 the numerical section has no optional questions and also has negative marking.
What does percentile mean in JEE Main?
Your percentile is the share of candidates in YOUR shift who scored the same as you or less. For example, 98 percentile means 98% of your shift scored at or below your marks. It is not the percentage of marks you got.
Why does the same score give a different percentile in different shifts?
Each shift has a different paper. In an easy shift many students score high, so you need more marks for the same percentile. In a hard shift fewer marks give the same percentile. That is why this tool shows a range, not one number.
How many students wrote JEE Main 2026?
NTA reports 13,04,653 candidates appeared in the January session and 10,34,330 in the April session. 15,38,468 unique candidates appeared in total (15.38 lakh), up from 14.75 lakh in 2025.
What was the JEE Advanced cutoff in JEE Main 2026?
For the General (Common Rank List) category the qualifying percentile was 93.4123549 in 2026, against 93.1023262 in 2025. The table on this page shows every category for both years.
Is this official NTA data?
No. NTA publishes candidate numbers, cutoffs and percentiles, but it does not publish a marks-to-percentile table or a percentile-to-rank formula. This tool combines NTA numbers with several publishers’ post-result tables and shows the full range they give. Use it to plan, not as a promise.
