JEE Main cutoff 2026 (category-wise, with past years)

The JEE Main cutoff is the lowest NTA percentile you need to be allowed to write JEE Advanced. Here is the official cutoff for every category from 2022 to 2026, with the approximate marks for 2026.

Cutoffs are official. Marks and ranks are estimates. The cutoff percentiles and candidate numbers are copied from NTA press notes. The marks and rank next to each cutoff are our estimate from published shift tables. Data last checked 11 October 2026. See the sources at the end of this page.

JEE Main 2026 cutoff, category-wise

NTA lists the top candidates of JEE Main 2026 for JEE Advanced, category by category. Together the lists in the 2026 press note hold 2,50,182 candidates. The cutoff is the percentile of the last candidate in each list.

We do not predict an exact cutoff for 2027. Below is the lowest and highest cutoff of each category in the last 3 years (2024–2026). It shows what recent years looked like. It is not a promise about next year.

How to read these numbers

The cutoff percentiles and the number of candidates come straight from NTA final-result press notes for 2026, 2025, 2024, 2023, 2022. We copied them to 7 decimal places, as NTA prints them.

NTA does not publish the marks at each cutoff. So the marks column is an estimate. It uses the same 2026 shift tables as our marks vs percentile tool. The lower number comes from the shift that needed the fewest marks (a harder paper). The higher number comes from the shift that needed the most marks (an easier paper).

The rank column is the Common Rank List (CRL) rank at that percentile: about (100 − percentile)% of the 15,38,468 candidates of 2026 scored above it. For a category cutoff this is still a CRL rank, not a category rank.

Frequently asked questions

What is the JEE Main 2026 cutoff for JEE Advanced?

For the General (Common Rank List) category the cutoff was 93.4123549 percentile. It was 82.4164528 for Gen-EWS, 80.9232583 for OBC-NCL, 63.9172792 for SC, 52.0174712 for ST and 0.0023186 for General-PwBD.

What is the OBC cutoff for JEE Main 2026?

The OBC-NCL cutoff was 80.9232583 percentile in 2026. It was 79.4313582 in 2025 and 79.6757881 in 2024.

What is the SC and ST cutoff for JEE Main 2026?

The SC cutoff was 63.9172792 percentile and the ST cutoff was 52.0174712 percentile in 2026. In 2025 they were 61.1526933 (SC) and 47.9026465 (ST).

How many marks are needed to clear the JEE Main 2026 cutoff?

NTA does not publish marks. In the published 2026 shift tables, 93.41 percentile needed roughly 86–128 marks out of 300, depending on the shift. This is an estimate. Category cutoffs need fewer marks; see the table on this page.

What will the JEE Main 2027 cutoff be?

Nobody knows yet, and NTA announces it only with the final result. In the last 3 years the General cutoff stayed between 93.10 and 93.41 percentile. In 2022 it was 88.41.

How has the number of JEE Main candidates changed?

NTA reports 9.06 lakh unique candidates for Paper 1 in 2022 and 15.38 lakh in 2026. Over the same years the General cutoff went from 88.41 to 93.41 percentile.

How much percentile is required for an NIT?

There is no percentile cutoff for NITs. NITs, IIITs and other JoSAA colleges admit students by their JEE Main rank (category rank where it applies). The last rank that gets a seat changes with the college, the branch, the category and the home-state quota, and it changes every year. The cutoff on this page is only for writing JEE Advanced.

Is this the same as the JEE Advanced qualifying marks?

No. This page is about JEE Main: the percentile you need to be allowed to write JEE Advanced. After JEE Advanced, the IITs set separate minimum marks for each rank list. See our JEE Advanced marks vs rank page for those.
