Cyber Security Salary Per Month in India: Role-by-Role for 2026
A fresher in cyber security in India earns about ₹30,000 to ₹58,000 per month in 2026. This post breaks down pay by role and experience level, and shows what a ₹4 LPA offer actually lands in your account.
Say you have just finished a cyber security course and an offer letter says ₹4 LPA. You divide by twelve to picture the monthly bank credit. The number you get is lower than the one you were hoping for. That gap is what this post measures, role by role.
A fresher in cyber security in India earns about ₹30,000 to ₹58,000 per month in 2026. Pay rises sharply with experience: mid-level roles reach ₹75,000 to ₹1,50,000 a month, according to Scaler's role-wise breakdown. The role you pick matters as much as the years you put in.
Cyber security salary per month by experience level
Monthly pay climbs in clear steps: fresher, mid-level (3 to 6 years), senior (7 to 12 years) and CISO. Scaler and salaryinfo.in agree on the shape but not the exact edges.
| Level | Scaler (per month) | salaryinfo.in (per month) | Scaler (per year) |
|---|---|---|---|
| Fresher | ₹30,000–58,000 | ₹33,000–83,000 | ₹3.5–7 LPA |
| Mid-level (3–6 years) | ₹75,000–1,50,000 | ₹1L–2L | ₹8–18 LPA |
| Senior (7–12 years) | ₹1,70,000–3,75,000 | ₹2L–5L | ₹20–45 LPA |
| CISO | Not listed | ₹4L–16L+ | ₹40–90 LPA |
A CISO (Chief Information Security Officer) runs security for a whole company. Among senior CISOs, the average is ₹53.3 LPA, per Scaler.
The salaryinfo.in ranges run higher at every level. Its fresher top end sits far above Scaler's. The likely reason is the mix of jobs behind each range. A range that blends Bangalore product-company offers with smaller-city service jobs stretches further at the top than one built from typical entry roles.
Role-by-role monthly pay: SOC analyst, pentester, engineer
Penetration testers start highest among the common entry roles, while SOC analysts start lowest but have the most openings, per Scaler's role-wise figures.
A SOC (Security Operations Centre) analyst watches alerts and flags attacks as they happen. A penetration tester, or pentester, is paid to break into systems before criminals do. A security engineer builds the defences, like firewalls and access rules. A cloud security engineer does the same job inside AWS, Azure or Google Cloud.
| Role | Fresher (Scaler) | Mid-level | Senior | Cross-check (salaryinfo.in) |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| SOC Analyst | ₹30K–50K | ₹75K–1.2L | ₹1.5L–2.5L | Entry ₹4–8 LPA |
| Cyber Security Engineer | ₹40K–58K | ₹1L–1.5L | ₹2L–3.5L | Not listed |
| Penetration Tester | ₹50K–67K | ₹1L–1.8L | ₹2.5L–4L | Ethical hacker average ₹12.7 LPA |
| Cloud Security Engineer | ₹45K–60K | ₹1.1L–1.7L | ₹2.2L–3.8L | See the cloud section below |
| Security Architect | Not an entry role | ₹1.5L–2L | ₹3L–5L | Not listed |
The two sources clash most on SOC entry pay. The upper end of salaryinfo.in's SOC entry range works out to about ₹66,700 a month, well above Scaler's ceiling for the same role. The ethical hacker figure is an average across all experience levels. That is why it lands inside Scaler's mid-level pentester band rather than the fresher one.
Here is fresher pay by role as a simple bar chart, using the upper end of each Scaler range. Each block stands for roughly five thousand rupees.
| Role | Top fresher pay per month (Scaler) | Bar |
|---|---|---|
| Penetration Tester | ₹67,000 | █████████████ |
| Cloud Security Engineer | ₹60,000 | ████████████ |
| Cyber Security Engineer | ₹58,000 | ████████████ |
| SOC Analyst | ₹50,000 | ██████████ |
Fresher reality check: entry-level pay is modest
Entry-level SOC pay of ₹30,000 to ₹50,000 a month is normal, and the higher figures you see online belong to a small group of freshers. Scaler places both SOC Analyst Tier 1 and Junior Security Analyst roles in that band.
Entry-level SOC work is also changing. AI now handles about 40% of L1 SOC triage, according to Scaler. L1 is the first tier, where analysts sort incoming alerts into "ignore" and "look closer". So the tasks left for humans need more judgment, and a fresher who can investigate an alert stands out.
My honest message: plan for a modest first job and a fast climb. Use the first two years to build skills that move you into a better-paid role.
Government roles are a stable alternative. Entry posts at Pay Level 7 to 8 pay ₹44,900 to ₹50,000 a month, per salaryinfo.in. The same page lists the RBI Young Professional programme at a ₹1.5 lakh monthly stipend. Check its eligibility rules on the RBI site before you plan around it.
A ₹4 LPA offer: what lands in your account each month
A ₹4 LPA CTC is ₹33,333 a month before any deductions, and the amount you actually receive is lower. CTC (cost to company) counts everything the employer spends on you. Some of that money never reaches your bank account.
Divide the CTC by twelve
₹4,00,000 divided by 12 gives ₹33,333. This is your monthly CTC, not your salary credit. A ₹4 LPA offer sits inside the SOC entry range on salaryinfo.in.
Remove the employer PF share
The company's contribution to your Provident Fund is counted in CTC. It goes into your PF account, not your monthly pay.
Remove variable pay
Bonuses and performance pay are often paid quarterly or yearly, and only if targets are met.
Subtract your own deductions
Your own PF contribution and professional tax come out, plus income tax if your income crosses the limit.
Read the result
For many fresher offers, the estimate lands a little under thirty thousand rupees a month.
Treat that final figure as an estimate. Every company structures CTC differently, so ask HR for the CTC breakup before you sign. I ran the same math on a services-company offer in my Infosys fresher salary breakdown.
Where the real money is: cloud security and OSCP
The pay premium sits in cloud security and in OSCP-certified offensive roles, not in generic entry-level analyst jobs. OSCP-certified professionals average ₹27 LPA on salaryinfo.in, more than double the ethical hacker average in the role table.
OSCP (OffSec Certified Professional) is a hands-on penetration testing certification from OffSec. Instead of answering multiple-choice questions, you break into lab machines during a long, timed exam. Then you write a report on what you found. Employers trust it because you cannot pass by memorising.
Freshers with OSCP at top firms see ₹10 to 20 LPA, per salaryinfo.in. Cloud security engineers earn ₹12 to 35 LPA at mid-senior level, and top product companies pay ₹40 LPA or more. These are averages and top-firm cases, not guaranteed starting pay.
Pros
- A much higher pay ceiling than generic analyst roles
- Proves practical skill, which helps when you have no work experience
- Opens doors at specialist security firms
Cons
- A hard exam with no shortcuts
- Needs months of hands-on practice before you attempt it
- The exam fee is a real cost for a student budget
If the OSCP route appeals to you, my guide on how to become a penetration tester lays out what to practise first.
Why security pay is rising in India right now
India has far fewer trained security people than it needs, and new rules and attacks keep adding jobs. Scaler counts fewer than 80,000 qualified experts against demand of over 1 million, which puts demand at 12 times supply.
Attacks drive hiring too. Ransomware attacks rose 73% year on year, according to Scaler. Every incident pushes companies to hire people who can detect and contain the next one.
Law adds a different kind of job. The DPDP Act (Digital Personal Data Protection Act) has been in enforcement since late 2025, and it is creating Data Protection Officer roles at ₹12 to 20 LPA, per Scaler. That path suits people who like policy and process more than code.
Security is also in this week's tech news, with GPT-6 Cyber and Hacktron making headlines. I won't guess at what these tools do from headlines alone. The general pattern is easier to see: when tools find more problems, someone with security skills has to judge and fix them. AI pay follows a similar pattern, which I covered in AI engineer fresher salary in India vs the US.
Does city or employer change your monthly pay?
Bangalore pays 20 to 30% more than the national average, and product and top security firms pay well above IT services, according to salaryinfo.in.
Employer type shapes your offer in a few common ways:
- IT services (TCS, Infosys and similar): high hiring volume through campus placements, with entry pay near the lower end of the fresher band.
- Product companies: fewer openings and harder interviews, but higher base pay.
- Specialist security firms: the most hands-on work, and the strongest pay for certified offensive roles.
A higher city salary comes with higher costs. Rent and travel in Bangalore eat into that premium. Compare the in-hand figure after living costs, not the headline LPA. The same city effect appears in DevOps pay, as my Chennai DevOps fresher salary post explains.
Which cyber security path should you pick?
Pick SOC analyst to get in fastest, then move to cloud security or pentesting with OSCP once you have hands-on skills. That route follows where the openings sit today and where pay grows later in Scaler's role data.
- You need a job soon: apply for SOC analyst roles and government security posts at the same time.
- You enjoy breaking things: aim for pentesting and start OSCP-style practice early.
- You like cloud and building systems: learn one cloud platform well and target cloud security engineer roles.
My verdict: judge this career at the 3 to 6 year mark, not at the first offer letter. That is when the mid-level band from the first table kicks in. People who switch to a specialist role before then tend to reach the top of it.
Here is your next step. Pick one role from the table, find three real job listings for it, and write down the monthly in-hand pay they offer. Then choose one hands-on skill to practise this month: a free SOC lab, a beginner cloud security course, or OSCP-style practice machines.
